Neurosarcoidosis

Neurosarcoidosis occurs when sarcoid inflammation affects the brain, spinal cord, cranial nerves or peripheral nerves. Symptoms may include headache, visual or facial changes, weakness, seizures, balance problems, hormonal disturbances or cognitive difficulties.

Because symptoms can be serious, diagnosis and treatment should be managed by a neurologist together with a sarcoidosis team. MRI, cerebrospinal-fluid analysis and other tests may be required. Urgent assessment is needed for sudden weakness, seizures, severe headache or loss of vision.
