Croatian sarcoidosis association

Our mission is to provide dedicated support to individuals diagnosed with sarcoidosis and their families.

Unfortunately, upon receiving a diagnosis, patients face countless questions. Standard clinical settings rarely offer enough time to explain what sarcoidosis really entails, how to navigate everyday life with the condition, what to expect, or the full multisystem scope and progression stages of the disease.

Faced with reduced physical capacity, fatigue, and disability, patients frequently struggle to navigate social rights, employment adjustments, and welfare protections.

We are here together to provide accurate answers, share practical experiences, and build a knowledgeable community that fosters understanding and resilience.

Key goals of our association

— Raise public and medical awareness about sarcoidosis;

— Educate patients and their families regarding the disease and evidence-based self-care;

— Foster collaboration among clinical specialists for early diagnosis, prevention of organ damage, and optimal therapeutic protocols;

— Advocate for the social, employment, and healthcare rights of all affected patients.

Dino-Josip Ključarić (born 1981) is the founder and president of the Croatian Association of Patients with Sarcoidosis. Following his own diagnosis, he dedicated himself to systematic independent research, investing over 4,000 hours in reviewing medical literature, clinical guidelines, and immunological pathways involved in sarcoidosis. He utilizes this deep expertise to author educational resources for patients and facilitate productive dialogue with medical specialists.

Through the association, he brought together approximately 1,200 patients across Croatia and the broader region, establishing one of the largest organized sarcoidosis patient communities in Southeastern Europe. He developed a specialized educational terminology framework and severity assessment models that allow patients to better comprehend systemic immunological reactions, organ involvement, and differential diagnostics.

In cooperation with hospital clinics and interdisciplinary specialists, he contributed to establishing triage and early screening protocols aimed at early symptom detection, cardiac and neurological risk stratification, and patient-centered clinical pathways. He consistently advocates with health authorities and welfare bodies to ensure modern diagnostic accessibility and comprehensive psychosocial support for chronic patients.

He writes frequently on medical ethics, systemic health care barriers, and the phenomenological experiences of chronic illness. His published guides support patients undergoing complex diagnostics and long-term immunosuppressive therapies.

Holding a master’s degree in theology with a philosophical focus, he also has broad expertise in organizational development, electronics, and the arts. His leadership remains firmly centered on patient empowerment, cross-sector partnership, and high standards of clinical care for every patient living with sarcoidosis.
