Sarcoidosis and insomnia

Sleep problems are common in people living with sarcoidosis. Pain, coughing, breathlessness, fatigue, anxiety, medication effects and an irregular sleep schedule may all contribute to insomnia.

Helpful steps may include keeping a regular sleep and wake time, limiting caffeine late in the day, reducing screens before bedtime, treating pain and breathing symptoms with your healthcare team, and keeping the bedroom quiet, dark and comfortable. Do not change prescribed medicines without medical advice.

Persistent or severe insomnia should be discussed with a doctor, especially when it affects mood, concentration, breathing or daily functioning. This information is educational and does not replace medical examination or treatment.
